Families are invited to join a joyful, tail-wagging adventure as Go, Dog. Go! • ¡Ve, Perro, Ve!zooms into Orlando Family Stage September 6 through October 5. Based on the beloved picture book by P.D. Eastman, this bilingual musical bursts with color, energy, and opportunities to support early learning through the power of live theatre.
A favorite for more than 60 years, Go, Dog. Go! is known for its simple text, silly humor, and fast-paced action. Now, it’s been reimagined with a playful mix of English and Spanish, inviting children of all language backgrounds to engage with the story, and each other. Dialogue and lyrics bounce between the two languages with warmth and clarity, making it easy to follow whether a child is just beginning to read, learning English as a second language, or already fluent in one or both languages.
“Bilingual stories like this help children build confidence with language, especially when they’re paired with movement and music,” said Zac Alfson, Sr. Director of Marketing at Orlando Family Stage. “We know that literacy looks different for every child, and theatre creates a joyful, inclusive environment where kids can explore language and express themselves in meaningful ways.”
This script, which debuted at Chicago Children’s Theatre, and is now making its Florida premiere, earned praise for its clever staging and educational value. Third Coast Reviewcalled it “spare with words and lavish with fun,” while the Chicago Reader described the show as “an hour of pure bilingual fun.”
At Orlando Family Stage, the bilingual message isn’t limited to what happens onstage. The theatre regularly brings dual-language arts experiences into local classrooms, using storytelling to connect students from different backgrounds and celebrate the many cultures that call Central Florida home. The organization works closely with teachers to reinforce reading comprehension, vocabulary, and verbal expression in both English and Spanish.
In a region where more than 1 in 4 households speak Spanish at home, bilingual performances like Go, Dog. Go! • ¡Ve, Perro, Ve! help break down barriers and invite more families into the arts.
